Last Updated on |

Like a lot of people, you hate grocery shopping. It’s like you don’t realize how much money you’re spending on things you use every day until you have a whole cart filled with it. You know a lot of your family and friends carry around coupon binders whenever they go into a store.

You’ve thought about it, but you’re just not thrilled with the idea of lugging tons of little papers around with you everywhere you go. Lucky for you, cell phones make this once tedious task simple. To start racking up your savings, try out one of these awesome coupon apps.

1. Ibotta

No matter much of a budget you set for yourself when you go grocery shopping, the end result is always outrageous. Ibotta makes the impact on your wallet a little less painful though.

All you have to do is go into your favourite grocery store, scan the barcodes on the things you need, and see if they are any rebates. If there are, you can buy the item, take a picture of your receipt, and get actual cash back once you’ve built up 20 dollars worth of savings.

You won’t get the immediate satisfaction of seeing your grocery bill go down with each scanned coupon at the register but the amount of money you can save to put towards a future grocery bill makes it well worth the wait.

2. Ebates

Ebates is a little more than a simple coupon app. It allows you to earn back a small percentage of your total order. The savings will come to you via check every quarter.  A bunch of big retailers participates such as Walmart, JC Penny, Macy’s, and Target.

All you have to do is start a shopping session on the app at some point before you check out. It’s that easy. You don’t even have to take a picture of your receipt.

As far as saving at the register, you can get discount codes from the app that you can put in at checkout to shave some money off your order.

3. GoodRx

Do you feel like you’re paying too much for prescription drugs? Don’t worry, everyone does. That’s why GoodRx was created

By putting in the name of your medication in on the app it can show you every drug store around you who carries it. This will allow you to compare prices so you can get the best deal.

The app also generates coupons that you can print off and take into the store with you for even more savings.

4. SavingStar

For those who aren’t too technologically savvy, SavingStar couldn’t make things easier if they tried. You don’t even have to take your phone into the store with you. All you have to do is use the customer loyalty card from your favourite retail places.

Link the card to your SavingStar account, pick your rebates, and use the card when you check out at the register. The savings will be automatically dropped into your SavingStar account.

Once you accumulate 20 dollars with of savings you can have it put into your bank or PayPal account.

5. Checkout 51

Many coupon apps are brand specific. Checkout 51 isn’t one of those apps. You can earn money back from buying generic things like produce and eggs.

6. Shopkick

Shopkick will literally reward you for walking through the front door of your favourite retail stores. With this app, you earn these things called kicks every time you make a purchase, scan a barcode, or yes, walk through the door of a shop.

Unlike the other apps on this list, your kick points won’t earn you physical cash. They get put on a gift card instead. The gift cards can serve as Gearbest coupon while shopping on Gearbest.

7. Mobisave

Mobisave is another app that will allow you to dump your savings into your PayPal account. All you have to do is activate your offers before you go on your shopping trip and then take a picture of your receipt when you get back.

Unlike the other apps on this list that work this way, you won’t have to wait until you accumulate a certain amount of savings to see the money. It’s instant.

8. Smart Source

Once you download the Smart Source app, you won’t need the weekly flyers that come in the mail anymore. Any of the deals offered in the paper will also be offered in this app.

You can sort via product type or brand name. You can even put in your zip code so you can find local offers. You can print all of these coupons off or you can have them loaded to your customer loyalty cards if you would like to save paper.

9. Red Plum

Red Plum works similarly as Smart Source. You download the app, search for coupons, and then print them. Many stores beside grocery stores participate with Red Plum.

This app also has recipes that you can look at for cooking ideas. So, for example, if you have a coupon for chicken on the app, you’ll get a few ideas for how you can use it for dinner.

10. SnipSnap

One of the off-putting parts about couponing is carrying around that bulky binder. SnipSnap allows you to toss that thing in the garbage. You can scan the barcodes of all your coupons and store them in the app.

The cashier can scan the barcode when you’re checking out and all your coupons will pop up. You can also take pictures of products in the store and the app will tell you about any specials going on that involve it. It will even let you know if it would be cheaper to buy the product online
